Winter Fun in Saija

In winter, our picturesque woods with their snow-covered trees are simply calling out to be explored. Winter season lasts from End of November until Mid-April. Would you like to head out into the great outdoors on skis, snowshoes or on board a husky sled or a snowmobile? We recommend you give them all a try! Saija has a husky kennel with 150 dogs. Drive your own dog team and experience how it is to work as a musher.

Husky safaris – the perfect way to explore the wilderness

Saija's kennel hosts about 150 Sibirian huskies. It's a long tradition in Saija to offer husky safaris to our guests. All guests drive their own pack of between four and six husky dogs. Expect a fun and unforgettable journey into the wilderness, full of thrills. You do not need to have any previous experience to take part.

Unforgettable husky safaris

A perfect start is our introduction safari, which covers a distance of about 13 kilometres. All guests are invited to drive their own pack of between four and six huskies and full instructions will be provided at the beginning of your visit. Small children can join the tour in the sledge.

If you are already familiar with the technique of driving a husky team you can take part in a half-day safari of 20 km. 

Our longer safari covers a distance of around 30 kilometres and take about four to six hours. We will take breaks along the route, and a fireside lunch will be served.

Snowmobile safaris

Our snowmobile safaris are the perfect way to discover the spectacular, snow-covered scenery in our local area using a network of varied and well-maintained routes. Before we set off, we will make sure you are wrapped up warm against the cold and we will also provide you with a thorough introduction to snowmobiles. We do not rent snowmobiles but you can join a guided safari. To drive a snowmobile you must have a driving license. Children under 8 years are not recommended to join a snowmobile tour.

Snowshoe adventures 

Snowshoe walking is a great way to get up close and personal with our woodlands and forests and to see the snow-clad trees and glittering expanses of pristine whiteness. You can choose to go exploring on your own or request the services of a guide, who will set up a campfire to make you a delicious cup of coffee.

We offer guided snowshoeing in Saija's surrounding or you rent equipment and explore the area on your own.

Explore Saija on skis

The varied terrain of northeastern Finland, with its marshlands, rivers and lakes, offers the ideal setting for cross-country skiing. With a variety of classic style skiing tracks (4km, 10km and 12km) to choose from, everyone from beginners to seasoned experts is perfectly catered for.
