The smoke sauna

Our smoke sauna is situated on the shore of the lake Jokijärvi. Smoke sauna is the traditional way of making sauna in Finland.

During six hours the sauna wil be heated up by making fire in the stove inside the sauna. While the stove does not have a chimney, the sauna is filled with smoke of the fire. After heating up, the fire is out and the smoke disappear slowly through small spaces. When using sauna, most of the smoke has gone but the smell is still there.

In summertime you can go for a nice swim in the lake after heated up in the sauna. In wintertime it is even possible to cool down in a icehole in the lake!
